The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is designed for citizens of developing countries with relevant professional experience who are applying for a master’s degree in a development-related field. This fully funded scholarship supports students in key areas of development, including economic policy management and infrastructure management, across 44 participating master's programs in various countries.

This opportunity not only covers tuition and travel expenses but also provides a monthly subsistence allowance to help cover living costs while studying abroad. It aims to empower individuals to contribute to their countries' development efforts through advanced education.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a national of a World Bank member developing country.
  • Not hold dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Be in good health and hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least 3 years prior to the application deadline.
  • Have at least 3 years of paid development-related employment.
  • Be unconditionally admitted to a JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program outside their country of citizenship.
  • Not be an Executive Director or close relative of World Bank Group staff.

Benefits

The scholarship covers:

  • Economy class air travel to and from the host university.
  • Tuition fees and basic medical insurance.
  • A monthly subsistence allowance for living expenses, which varies by host country.
