The KU Leuven PhD Scholarship 2026 offers an exceptional opportunity for African researchers to pursue a fully funded PhD in Artificial Intelligence. This program is part of the IAmAI Project, which reserves 50% of its slots for Sub-Saharan Africans. Scholars will receive a monthly salary of €2,500, full tuition coverage, and a €10,000 research budget, allowing them to conduct fieldwork in their home countries.

This scholarship not only supports academic growth but also contributes to the development of AI solutions tailored for African youth. With a focus on impactful research, participants will engage in projects that address local challenges, making a significant difference in their communities.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold an MSc/MPhil in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering from an African university with a minimum grade of 70% or B+. Candidates should have experience in AI/ML, be under 35 years of age by October 1, 2026, and possess a Sub-Saharan African passport. Proposals must utilize African data or address issues faced by African youth.

Benefits
