The Embassy of Japan in Kenya invites applications for the 2027 MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Research Scholarship. This fully funded program allows Kenyan nationals to pursue master's or doctoral studies at Japanese graduate schools, covering tuition, living expenses, and travel costs.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to study in Japan for 18 months to two years, including six months of intensive Japanese language training. This scholarship is highly competitive and aims to support students with strong academic records and clear research proposals.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Kenyan citizens, born on or after April 2, 1992 (35 years or younger). For master's applicants, a second-class upper division undergraduate degree is required, while doctoral applicants must hold a master's degree.

Benefits

Covers tuition fees, a monthly living allowance (approximately ¥143,000 to ¥145,000), and round-trip economy airfare between Kenya and Japan.
