PhD Scholarship Future Rural Africa Project 2026 for Researchers (Fully Funded Ethnographic Research)
The Future Rural Africa Project is offering a competitive PhD scholarship under its Subproject B03 titled 'Violent Futures.' This opportunity is designed for scholars interested in the impact of carbon credit initiatives on social relations and conflict dynamics in rural Africa, specifically in Tanzania and Kenya. Candidates will engage in immersive ethnographic fieldwork to explore these complex relationships.
This PhD position provides a unique combination of academic training, field experience, and financial support, including a monthly stipend and access to a major interdisciplinary research project focused on climate justice and carbon markets.
Eligibility
Candidates should have a strong academic background in social sciences or related disciplines, with interests in anthropology, political ecology, environmental studies, or development studies. Experience or willingness to conduct ethnographic fieldwork is essential, along with strong writing and research skills at the postgraduate level.
Benefits
Monthly stipend of €1,475 for the duration of 41 months.
