Program Officer for Local News at MacArthur Foundation (Hybrid, Chicago)
The MacArthur Foundation is seeking a Program Officer for its Local News initiative, aimed at fostering thriving local news ecosystems in the United States. This role involves managing grantmaking, building strategic relationships, and contributing to the development of local news infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Local News and engage with various stakeholders to support community cohesion and civic participation through journalism.
This is a term-limited position linked to the Foundation’s Local News work, with a strategy review scheduled for December 2028. The role requires expertise in the journalism sector and a commitment to enhancing local news ecosystems, particularly in historically underserved communities.
Eligibility
Candidates should have six to ten years of experience in the journalism sector, specifically in local news. A mature understanding of the challenges facing the journalism industry and excellent analytical and communication skills are essential. The position is hybrid and based in Chicago, Illinois, and requires frequent travel.
