The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition 2026 invites young writers from across the Commonwealth to share their creativity and perspectives. This year's theme, 'Common Ground: Better Together,' encourages participants to explore connections that unite people across cultures and communities. This competition is a unique opportunity for young voices to be heard on a global stage, fostering understanding and inspiring change through storytelling.

Participants will have the chance to win a week of cultural and literary activities in the UK, culminating in an award ceremony at Buckingham Palace. This prestigious competition has a long history, having engaged over 200,000 young people since its inception in 1883.

Eligibility

To enter the competition, participants must:

  • Be 18 or under on 30 April 2026
  • Be a Commonwealth national or resident
  • Submit a written piece under 1,000 words on one of the competition questions.
