The University of Birmingham, through its International Development Department, offers a prestigious fully funded scholarship for the MSc in Development Policy and Politics. This unique two-year program combines academic excellence with practical experience, providing scholars with a one-year master’s degree followed by a fully integrated one-year internship.

This opportunity is specifically designed for talented African students passionate about governance, leadership, and development policy. The program emphasizes the critical role of politics in development and equips scholars with the analytical and practical skills needed to address global and regional challenges.

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • African nationals, domiciled or permanently resident in an African country.
  • Under 30 years old at the time of application.
  • Hold a First-Class Honours degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Politics, Development Studies).
  • Meet English language requirements (IELTS: minimum 6.5 or TOEFL: minimum 580/93).

Benefits

The scholarship covers full tuition fees, return airfare to the UK, visa costs, a monthly stipend of £1,592 for 18 months, and an arrival allowance of £1,082. The final 6 months of internship funding is provided by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.
