The 7th CODESRIA ZASB Summer School 2026 invites early-stage PhD researchers to rethink their work on Africa. This fully funded program focuses on the foundations of research, encouraging participants to critically engage with their research questions and underlying assumptions. The summer school runs from July 20 to 24, 2026, in Dakar, Senegal, and emphasizes a small, intensive learning environment with senior scholars.
Participants will have the opportunity to refine their research frameworks and engage with interdisciplinary perspectives, connecting African Studies communities across Africa and Switzerland. The program is designed for those who are deep into their PhD work and are ready to revisit core assumptions in their research.
Eligibility
- PhD student or early career scholar in the Social Sciences or Humanities
- Affiliation with a higher education institution in Africa
- PhD candidates from Swiss universities may also apply
- Priority given to those in the first or second year of their PhD
- Research aligned with African Studies, Area Studies, or related fields
- Ability to engage critically with conceptual and methodological questions
- Complete application with all required documents
