The Africa CDC is accepting applications for the 2026 cohort of its Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship. This six-month program is designed for mid-career African public health professionals, focusing on building capacity to effectively respond to public health emergencies. Participants will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, and hands-on experience in emergency management operations.

Fellows will engage in immersive instruction, study tours, and field placements, equipping them to enhance their countries' public health emergency management frameworks upon completion. This fellowship is crucial for developing a self-reliant health security system across the African continent.

Eligibility

  • Must be a citizen of an African Union Member State.
  • Age limit: 50 years old or younger as of 31 July 2026.
  • Hold a postgraduate degree in public health or a closely related discipline.
  • Relevant professional experience in public health sectors, especially in emergency operations.
  • Must be a full-time civil servant in governmental public health institutions within Africa.

Benefits

The fellowship covers travel expenses, accommodation, learning materials, a monthly stipend, and insurance for the duration of the program.
