The AMALI Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2026 offers an exceptional opportunity for early-career researchers passionate about urban development and governance in African cities. Hosted by the African Centre for Cities at the University of Cape Town, this fellowship empowers researchers to contribute to policy, leadership, and sustainable urban growth across the continent.
Fellows will engage in rigorous research, data analysis, and collaboration with city leaders, focusing on pressing urban issues such as water management, urban health, and housing. Eligibility
Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree in a relevant field within the past five years, such as Urban Studies or Urban Planning. Strong writing skills, fluency in English, and an understanding of urban governance in Africa are essential. Experience in local government and proficiency in French are advantageous. Candidates must not have held permanent full-time academic positions and must commit full-time to the fellowship in Cape Town.

Benefits
