ARUA Early-Career Research Fellowship 2026 for African Researchers (Supports Gender Equity)
The ARUA Early-Career Research Fellowship programme aims to strengthen Africa’s research capacity by funding up to 42 early-career researchers. Supported by the Mastercard Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation of New York, this initiative provides a platform for young African scholars to engage in high-impact research while collaborating with leading institutions.
Fellows will be hosted at institutions affiliated with ARUA’s Centres of Excellence and Africa-Europe Clusters of Excellence. The fellowship lasts for six months, with two cycles available: March to August 2026 and September 2026 to February 2027. This flexibility allows candidates to align the fellowship with their academic commitments.
Eligibility
Applicants must be early-career researchers with a PhD and no older than 35 years at the time of application. At least 70% of the fellowships are reserved for female candidates, promoting gender equity in research. Candidates should be engaged in research areas aligned with ARUA’s Centres of Excellence or Africa-Europe CoREs.
