CODESRIA/ZASB Summer School 2026 for Doctoral Students and Early-Career Scholars (Engage with African Thought)
The 7th CODESRIA/ZASB Summer School in African Studies offers a unique opportunity for doctoral students and early-career scholars to engage with the intellectual legacy of Valentin-Yves Mudimbe. Taking place in Dakar, Senegal from July 20-24, 2026, this program encourages participants to critically examine inherited disciplinary frameworks and explore African conceptual contributions to knowledge production.
Participants will engage in critical reflection on their research through African intellectual traditions, explore how African Studies can drive theoretical innovation globally, and develop skills to connect rigorous scholarship with societal impact. This Summer School aims to foster interdisciplinary scholarship while strengthening the connection between African and Swiss academic communities.
Eligibility
Open to PhD students in the Social Sciences and Humanities (preferably first or second year) from African or Swiss institutions, and early-career scholars interested in interdisciplinary research on Africa.
