The ESA African Research Fellowships 2026 for African Researchers
The ESA African Research Fellowships aim to empower the next generation of African Earth observation leaders. This program, part of the EO AFRICA flagship initiative, invites four passionate African researchers to spend one year at ESA’s ESRIN centre in Frascati, Italy, collaborating with ESA experts. Selected fellows will have the opportunity to propose a research project utilizing Earth observation satellite data.
Fellows will gain access to ESA-supported cloud computing resources, training through the EO AFRICA Space Academy, and a professional network that promotes open research practices. This fellowship is crucial for advancing research in satellite Earth observation and translating data into sustainable solutions.
Eligibility
African researchers holding a PhD or a Master’s degree with substantial proven research experience in satellite Earth Observation, satellite remote sensing, or a closely related field are eligible to apply. Innovators driven to translate data into sustainable solutions are particularly encouraged.
Benefits
