Germany’s Academy Fellowships of International Affairs 2027/28 Open for Scholars

The Academy of International Affairs North Rhine-Westphalia (AIA NRW) is offering fellowships for post-doctoral scholars and senior practitioners from various fields including politics, diplomacy, media, business, and civil society. The fellowship provides residencies in Bonn for three to ten months, covering essential costs such as housing, travel, and research infrastructure. This program is particularly relevant as it addresses contemporary challenges in European security policy, encouraging innovative research and collaboration between academics and practitioners.

Fellows can choose between two tracks: an open focus stream or a thematic stream centered on 'Comprehensive Security for a Changing World'. Open to post-doctoral scholars and senior practitioners from politics, diplomacy, media, business, and civil society. Applicants must have a completed doctorate for the academic track or relevant operational experience for the practitioner track. Proposals must articulate a clear intellectual contribution.

The fellowship covers accommodation, round-trip travel to Bonn, dedicated office space, and individual budgets for research expenses. Compensation can be in the form of stipends, paid leave arrangements, or reimbursements to home institutions.
