The Harkness Fellowship 2027–28 is a prestigious program designed for midcareer professionals focused on health care policy and practice. This fellowship allows participants to spend a year in the United States conducting internationally comparative research on health care delivery or policy issues, supported by mentorship from U.S. experts and access to professional networks.

Fellows will engage in leadership development activities and gain insights into the U.S. health care system. The program emphasizes research that is relevant to both the U.S. and the fellows' home countries, aiming for impactful policy or system-level changes.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include midcareer professionals from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. Applicants must be established residents of their respective countries, eligible for a J-1 Research Scholar Visa, and committed to continuing their careers in their home countries. A strong background in health policy and a proposed research project relevant to both the U.S. and their home country are required.

Benefits

Fellows receive dedicated research funding, a monthly living stipend of approximately USD 8,500, round-trip airfare, relocation support, health insurance coverage, and payment of U.S. federal and state withholding taxes. Additional family support is available for fellows with dependents.
