The IFAD Internship Programme 2026 offers a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in international development, agriculture, and rural poverty reduction. This six-month internship allows participants to contribute to IFAD's mission of eradicating rural poverty and hunger globally while building essential skills for a career in the United Nations system.

Interns will be placed in various departments based on their academic background, engaging in meaningful work that supports ongoing development programs and research activities. This structured program not only provides practical experience but also fosters professional growth through mentorship and networking opportunities.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 30 years of age or younger
  • Be enrolled in a university or graduate program OR have recently completed studies
  • Have attended academic courses within the last 12 months
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies
  • Be fluent in English (knowledge of additional UN languages is an advantage)
  • For some field offices, knowledge of the local language may be required.

Candidates for the Enhanced Internship Programme must also be based outside Rome.

Benefits

Interns receive a monthly stipend to support living expenses, and participants in the Enhanced Internship Programme may receive a housing allowance and travel support.
