International Fellowship 2026 for Urban Scholars from Developing Countries (Funding for Research)
The International Fellowship from the Urban Studies Foundation supports urban scholars from the Global South in advancing high-quality urban research. This program funds visiting sabbatical periods at a host university, enabling fellows to write up existing research into publishable outputs such as journal articles, book chapters, or books.
The initiative aligns with the mission to strengthen global urban studies, promote epistemic justice, and foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange. Funding supports accommodation, subsistence, travel, and some research-related costs for a fellowship lasting between 3 and 9 months.
Eligibility
Early-to-mid-career researchers who obtained a PhD within the past ten years and are nationals of countries listed on the OECD DAC list of ODA recipients. Applicants must have institutional affiliation in those countries, completed primary data collection and analysis, and be prepared to produce publishable work. Mentorship from a senior scholar and placement at a host institution anywhere in the world is required.
Benefits
Funding covers accommodation, subsistence, travel, and some research-related costs for a fellowship lasting between 3 and 9 months. Additional limited funding may be available for mentors and for fellows with specific needs (e.g., caregiving or disability-related costs).
