The LOTUS Programme 2026 invites up to 1,000 Indian Master’s and PhD scholars for funded research positions in Japan. This initiative aims to enhance academic collaboration between India and Japan, providing participants with access to advanced research facilities and international exposure.

The programme is divided into two tracks: LOTUS Basic for short-term research stays of up to 12 months and LOTUS Aspire for long-term opportunities of up to 36 months. Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend and additional funding for research-related expenses.

Eligibility

Open to Indian Master’s students, PhD scholars, and postdoctoral researchers under 40 years of age. Applications must be submitted through a Principal Investigator at a Japanese university or research institution.

Benefits

Monthly stipend of about 240,000 yen, plus funding for research materials, travel within Japan, and collaboration support. Total funding under the Aspire track can reach up to ₹25.6 lakh per year.
