The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) invites global researchers to apply for its Research Fellowship Program for 2027 in Japan. This program supports outstanding non-Japanese researchers to conduct innovative projects at Japanese host institutions, fostering international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Fellows can choose their host universities or research institutions in Japan, allowing them to align their projects with local experts. The fellowship spans six months, providing not only research opportunities but also cultural exposure and historical understanding, promoting mutual respect and friendship between Japan and the world.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Hold a Ph.D. at the time of application.
- Be 45 years old or younger (born in or after 1981).
- Have a full-time occupation in their home country and return there after the fellowship.
- Obtain acceptance from a host institution in Japan before applying.
- Have sufficient English or Japanese language ability.
- Not have prior long-term experience in Japan (except for short visits).
Benefits
The fellowship covers:
- Monthly stipend of JPY 220,000 for living expenses.
- One-time arrival fund of JPY 120,000.
