Strengthening Locally Led Gender Justice Movements in Africa 2026 for Local Civil Society Organizations (Multi-Year Partnership)

Sonke Gender JusticeGlobalGrantsDeadline: Posted

Sonke Gender Justice invites local civil society organisations, feminist movements, community-based women, LGBTQI+, disability, and youth-led organisations to apply for a multi-year partnership aimed at building a pan-African movement. The project focuses on empowering local actors to address shrinking civic space, anti-gender backlash, and climate-induced gender vulnerabilities through advocacy, community mobilisation, and movement strengthening.

The programme will work with various groups to enhance their capacity, promote collective action, and establish accountability mechanisms to address human rights violations and gender-based violence. Selected partners will receive mentorship and support to develop their organisational capabilities and contribute to systemic progress toward gender equality and human rights.

Eligibility

Local civil society organisations, feminist movements, community-based organisations, LGBTQI+ groups, disability rights organisations, and youth-led organisations from Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, and Zambia are eligible to apply. Grassroots organisations are encouraged to apply as part of a consortium led by a registered partner (Uganda and Nigeria only).

Benefits

Funding will be allocated with a minimum of 40% for women-led organisations, 20% for youth-led organisations, and 10% for LGBTQI+-led organisations. Selected partners will receive long-term mentorship in financial management and governance.
