The TWAS-CSIR Postgraduate Fellowship 2026 offers a fully funded opportunity for young researchers from developing countries to pursue a PhD at top-tier research laboratories in India. This program is designed to foster scientific capacity in the Global South, allowing international scholars to access cutting-edge facilities in various domains of science and technology.
Selected scholars will receive a comprehensive monthly stipend covering living costs, health insurance, and subsidized accommodation for up to four years of study. The fellowship provides two flexible tracks: a 'Sandwich' option for students already registered for a PhD in their home country and a 'Full-Time' option for those looking to register at an Indian university.
Eligibility
- Maximum age of 35 years on December 31 of the application year.
- Must be a national of a developing country in the South (excluding India).
- Must hold a Master’s degree in science and technology.
- Must be regularly employed in their home country with a current research assignment.
- Must not hold a temporary or permanent visa for India or any developed country.
- Must secure an official preliminary acceptance letter from an eligible CSIR institution.
- Provide evidence of English proficiency if previous education was not in English.
- Must commit to returning to their home country upon completion of the fellowship.
