The UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Young Scientists Awards aim to support a new generation of scientists worldwide. These awards provide funding for research focused on ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity, with grants of up to $5,000 available for eligible young researchers.

Created in 1989, the MAB Young Scientists Awards prioritize interdisciplinary projects that contribute to sustainability and the implementation of the Hangzhou Strategic Action Plan and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This initiative is crucial for fostering innovative research that addresses ecological challenges.

Eligibility

Applicants must be under 35 years of age at the application closing date. Applications must be endorsed by the applicant’s MAB National Committee, which can endorse only two applications per year. Priority is given to projects in biosphere reserves. Applicants from developed countries are eligible only in exceptional cases or if in partnership with developing countries.

Benefits

Grants of up to $5,000 for research projects. International travel expenses are usually not covered.
