The USF International Fellowships 2026 offers an exceptional opportunity for early to mid-career urban scholars from the Global South to advance their research careers through a fully funded international research residency. This fellowship supports researchers who have completed significant fieldwork and data analysis, providing them with dedicated time, academic mentorship, and institutional support to transform their findings into high-quality academic publications.

Selected fellows can spend between three and nine months at a host university anywhere in the world, focusing on writing journal articles, book chapters, or complete books. This program not only aids in the publication of existing research but also promotes international academic collaboration, connecting researchers from the Global South with experienced mentors and leading research institutions globally.

Applicants must be early to mid-career urban scholars with a PhD awarded within the last 10 years. They must be nationals of countries included on the OECD Development Assistance Committee list of Official Development Assistance recipients and affiliated with a research institution in an eligible country. The research should focus on urban studies or related fields such as migration, housing, governance, sustainability, and inequality.

Benefits

The fellowship covers a fully funded international research residency, allowing scholars to focus on writing and publication activities. It includes mentorship from experienced academics and access to global academic networks.
